La protagonista è stata la rosa damascena, dalla quale viene estratto uno dei più pregiati oli essenziali al mondo, impiegato nel settore della cosmesi.
La presenza della rosa in tutti i suoi colori domina il paesaggio e ben prima di compiere l’ingresso nella cittadina. Distese sterminate di roseti, infatti, con la loro presenza ci rammentano che Kazanlak è delle capitali mondiali dei fiori.
La “festa delle rose” è un evento che è giunto alla 116° edizione. Quest’anno ha visto la partecipazione di delegazioni provenienti da ogni parte del mondo, tra le quali, Grecia, Serbia, Sud Corea, Macedonia e Cina.
La festa ha coniugato aspetti folkloristici dal sapore quasi arcaico, come le traversate sui carboni ardenti, esposizioni vinicole e visite al museo delle rose ed ai dintorni ricchissimi di siti archeologici come la Valle dei re traci.
La manifestazione si è conclusa in piazza Seuthopolis con una grande parata in costume e con la presenza di numerose autorità, compresa il ministro Ministro per la Presidenza bulgara del Consiglio dell’UE 2018, Lilyana Pavlova.
La sfilata è appariscente, talvolta eccessiva e, al coltempo, affascinante, per la durata ed il numero di partecipanti. Gli aspetti più suggestivi sono dati dai costumi tradizionali bulgari e dalla presenza dei “kukeri” o incapucciati, delle maschere risalenti agli antichissimi riti traci. Il loro aspetto con colori vistosi e rumorosi campanacci ed il loro incedere danzante, ricorda i mamuthones sardi.
